Integrative Psychiatry involves a new paradigm of healing by synthesizing traditional medical understandings with the deeper cause of disease by integrating the mind, body, spirit and emotions.
I draw on a blend of conventional psychiatric and holistic (non-pharmaceutical) therapies, including: pharmaceutical grade natural supplementation, medication, detoxification, adrenal, thyroid and GI tract balancing, which supports, and activates the body's own innate healing system.
Whole-System Healing Model
In my center I have a whole-systems healing model. We address the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of each individual.
When adequate levels of nutrients are present in the body and in balance, we are better able to release emotional and mental baggage that stores not only in our bodies but in our energetic fields. We are able to release limiting beliefs about ourselves (i.e.: I am not good enough. I am not lovable, and I don’t deserve anything). Traumas are processed and healed.
As past issues are released and healed, we feel lighter. Our spirit shines through and radiates from us. We look and feel younger. We return to our state of “wholeness”.
It is from this state of “wholeness” that we remember who we really are, what we came here to do, and a return to our divine nature. We create and live life from the heart - as we were meant to.
And Why I Use Them
And Why I Use Them
I became interested in natural treatments for mental health several years ago when I saw a dramatic and life-changing turnaround in one of my patients. He was not responding to conventional medication for his diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder and was also suffering from medication severe side effects. He asked if I would be willing to try a new and natural micronutrient (vitamin and mineral) supplement.
Within a few weeks, his symptoms improved significantly and eventually I was able to titrate him off all of his medications. I began to further research this particular formulation and realized that I had found something revolutionary and life-changing. Over the years, I have successfully treated a large number of individuals with this same protocol and witnessed the same dramatic effect.
Micronutrients are a technical term that refers to all vitamins and biologically active minerals required for our bodies to optimally function. These micronutrients also include amino acids and essential fatty acids.
Dietary intake of micronutrients must be maintained at nutritionally sufficient levels in order to maintain biological function and general health, both physical and mental. Micronutrients play a role in virtually every biological, chemical, and physiological process. For example, B vitamins are essential for our bodies to manufacture and regulate mood-boosting neurotransmitters such as Serotonin.
Do You Prescribe
Do You Prescribe
In traditional psychiatry, medication is the mainstay of treatment. I have many years of experience working inpatient and forensic inpatient/outpatient units primarily prescribing medication regimes. I absolutely prescribe medication as a first line treatment, when necessary.
However, over the years, I have seen that medications are frequently over-prescribed and used in excessive amounts. While I tend to be more holistically minded, I am not against medication. When I do prescribe medications, my philosophy is to use the smallest amount necessary to provide the individual relief from their symptoms and minimize uncomfortable side effects.
I make all treatment recommendations based on each patient's individual needs and desires. If you are unsure about which approach you would like to take, I will outline the benefits and drawbacks of each option to ensure that you have all the information to make an informed choice.
